Fernando Jamarne works in a wide range
of business areas, focusing mainly on planning and completing commercial
and financial business transactions. He advises local and foreign clients
on structuring cross-border business transactions, mergers and acquisitions
and has extensive experience in banking legislation and corporate finance
matters. Mr. Jamarne has been involved in the privatization of water and
sewage companies and public bidding processes as well as bond issues and
syndicated loans.
Before joining Alessandri & Compañía and becoming a
partner in 2001, Mr. Jamarne worked as General Counsel of the Chase Manhattan
Bank Chile Branch, as International Legal Advisor to BankBoston in Boston,
Massachusetts, as counsel to the World Bank in Washington DC and as counsel
to the Central Bank of Chile.
Fernando Jamarne is also director of a
number of leading companies in the communications, insurance and forestry
industries.
Mr. Jamarne was Assistant Professor of
Law and Economics at the University of Chile and was also a visiting lecturer
at the Catholic University of Chile. He has written many articles and
other documents published by Chile’s Central Bank and the University
of Chile, including “La Agencia Multilateral de Garantía
de Inversiones (MIGA)”, “Características de los instrumentos
de ahorro” and “Menores en conflicto con la Justicia”.
In 1986, Mr. Jamarne worked as visiting
counsel at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in New York.
Fernando Jamarne is a member of the Chilean
Bar Association and the International Bar Association.
