The firm was founded in 1893 by Arturo Alessandri Palma, President of Chile between 1920-1925 and 1932-1938. The Corporate Area has extensive experience in foreign investment, privatizations, mergers and acquisitions as well as in financing and debt restructuring, bond issues and private placements. It has also had considerable success in the litigation area. For over 20 years, financial projects have been one of the firm's most important practices. The firm played a key role in the enactment of the regulations allowing the placement of ADRs in Wall Street for Chilean companies. More recently, it was a key contributor to the first registration of a foreign mutual fund for public offering in Chile. The firm's Intellectual Property Area is one of the largest in Chile and its clients are amongst the most important companies and institutions in the world. The team of lawyers, which comprise this area of expertise, are highly regarded professionals with different specializations. Several of them played an important role in drawing up Chile's Intellectual Property legislation.
